The mostly-unpaved Apache Trail Historic Road (route 88) runs from Apache Junction to Tortilla Flat northeast to the Roosevelt Lake dam, between Four Peaks Wilderness and Superstition Wilderness, through the Salt River Canyon. It was the stage coach trail through the Superstition Mountains.
